Clinton girls split pair of hockey games


The Clinton girls hockey team scored the lone goal of the game to edge Franklin Academy 1-0 at Kennedy Arena on Jan. 5.

Sophomore captain Mia Lopata of Clinton scored a first period goal on an assist from eighth grader Alyssa Nardslico of Rome.

New Hartford sophomore Ashley Carr had a 13-save shutout in the win for the Clinton team, a unified squad of players from a number of local schools.

The Clinton girls hockey squad lost to Alexandria Bay 4-3 on Jan. 4.

Kamryn Barnes scored her third goal of the game on the power play with 2:52 remaining to give the Lady Islanders the victory.

RFA eighth-grader Drew Kopek had two power play goals for the unified Clinton team, and freshman Morgan Misiaszek (Whitesboro) added her first goal of the season in the loss. Sophomore captain Mia Lopata (Clinton) had two assists while junior Elana Calicchia (RFA), senior Devyn Farrell (Holland Patent) and eighth-grader Alyssa Nardslico (RFA) had one assist each.

Junior goaltender Hailey Millington (RFA) had 12 saves in the loss.
