NATION:  A front will trigger showers and thunderstorms across the Appalachians and into the Ohio Valley today. Across the Plains, oppressive heat is expected as temperatures soar to near triple digits in many locations. The national high temperature Sunday was 122 degrees at Death Valley, Calif., and the low was 35 at Walden, Colo.
