UTICA — YWCA Mohawk Valley (YWCA MV) staff and board members were joined by local dignitaries and
community members on Thursday, celebrating the agency’s relocation to its new offices at
7 Rutger Park from its former headquarters at 1000 Cornelia St.
The celebration featured a ribbon cutting and tours of the new facility, which is now located on the first two floors of the former Teamster’s building.
YWCA MV Chief Executive Officer Dianne Stancato and Board of Directors President Dietra Harvey made the ceremonial cut together, with local public officials looking on in support.
“This event celebrates more than just our move. It celebrates our history as an agency that empowers women, that embraces change, and that is always looking toward the future to better serve our community,” said Stancato.
YWCA MV celebrated 100 years at the Cornelia Street location in 2017, Stancato explained. This move coincides with the recent Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative grant award of $3.75 million to explore the possibility of rejuvenating the historic landmark into permanent supportive housing for survivors of domestic violence.
The Rutger Park location provides the space needed to bring all YWCA MV Oneida County administrative personnel to one location, including support group and counseling services. Newly renovated meeting rooms, administrative offices, a counseling area, and the hotline office surrounds the landmark sprawling marble staircase that serves as the centerpiece of this historic, yet contemporary-designed building.
