Two men were charged with threatening an employee of JC Penney’s department store at Freedom Plaza on Erie Boulevard West Friday and making off with some merchandise.
A third man is still at large.
Rome Police Detective Richard Galluppi said the trio threatened the employee with what appeared to be handguns at about 6 p.m. and left the store with some items, but no cash.
The incident was captured on surveillance video, the Rome police detective said, adding that no one was injured.
Galluppi said two weapons — both BB guns — were recovered as well as some of the merchandise.
As a result of the on-going investigation, Devin A. Caldwell, 18, of Troy, Rensselaer County, and Brian K. Miller, 19, of Queens, were taken into custody at 2:45 a.m. Saturday and charged with one count each of felony second-degree robbery.
Both were to appear today for a felony exam in City Court, authorities said.
Galluppi said police continue to search for another man involved. Anyone with information may contact Rome Police at 315-339-7780 or leave an anonymous tip at www.romepd.com. Calls will be kept
