Theodore “Teddy” Behlin Sr., 61, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Albany Medical Center. He was born in Brooklyn on July 12, 1956, the son of Eutsey and Mildred Hodges Behlin. He was educated in Brooklyn schools and loved to play basketball.
Teddy worked for AMTRAK for several years before relocating to Rome where he settled until his death.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his precious son TJ. When Teddy entered a room you knew he was there with that loud voice, which will be missed.
Teddy is survived by his loving mother, Mildred Behlin of Brooklyn; son, Theodore “TJ” Behlin Jr. of Rome; sister, Donna Behlin of Rome; three nephews, Tyrone Cowell Sr. of West Palm Beach, FL, Dwayne Cowell of Rome and Reggie Behlin of Rome; niece, Michelle Behlin of Rome; aunt, Arlene Jenkin of Brooklyn; great-aunt, Virginia Salley of Brooklyn; three step-daughters, Candice, Dominique and Asia, all of Cleveland, OH; and several grandnieces and nephews, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Eutsey; sister, Elaine Cowell; and a step-daughter, Tanisha.
Teddy’s family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude for the many acts of kindness and especially would like to acknowledge Anquan and Ann Dyer, who have taken Teddy’s son under their care with love. Many thanks also to the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church family and Pastor and Sister Jackson.
A Home Going Celebration will be held on Friday, March 2, at 6 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. Interment will take place in St. John’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday at the funeral home prior to the service from 4-6 p.m.
