It’s been a sweet two weekends at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School.
The energetic VVS Future Farmers of America hosted their annual Maple Syrup Weekends, a combination of delicious eating and straightforward information on the wonderful world of maple syrup.
Maple syrup flowed, as did other maple products. There were wagon tours of the freshly tapped maple surgarbush as well as the sap house where the sap is boiled down into syrup.
VVS-FFA isn’t the only group with Maple Syrup Weekends.
During Maple Weekend maple farms across New York State invite visitors to their “sugar houses” to experience firsthand how pure, mouth-watering maple syrup and other related products are made. Visitors also have the opportunity to enjoy fun, family-friendly activities, taste New York’s freshest syrup and purchase maple products.
As the official state website (mapleweekend.nysmaple.com) points out “visitors get to taste a pure and natural food product at its freshest and in its many forms. Learn how maple syrup and other maple confections are made and experience the unique family traditions of making maple syrup in New York State. “
Those who visited VVS the past weekends had a chance to celebrate New York’s first agricultural harvest of the season in a family-friendly environment.
