Rome along with the surrounding area has been put on notice by road salt supplier Cargill that it is low on supply.
“Being that we have plenty of winter yet we need to make our salt supply last longer,” the city announced.
“So effective today we will be salting intersections, bridges, hills, boulevards, and the arterial,” the city said in its announcement, adding that “housing areas that we salt on a regular basis will not see the salt we once applied.”
In the meantime, the city advises motorists to “please be patient and drive carefully until Cargill lifts the salt restrictions.”
The city added that it will “inform the public when the salt restrictions are lifted.”
