Ella Rainbow’s game-high 24 points guided the Oneida girls basketball team to the Tri-Valley League title with a 56-41 TVL road victory over rival Vernon-Verona-Sherrill on Monday night.
The win gave the Indians their first TVL title since the 2007-08 season.
Oneida enters the Section III Tournament with an 11-game winning streak.
Rainbow made five three-pointers for the Indians and Lauren Skibitski chipped in with 17 points and four three-pointers. Anna Hood scored four points and had 12 rebounds, while Julianna Cavanagh scored six points and had seven rebounds for the TVL champions.
Alexa Kiser led the Red Devils with 18 points and McKenna Berry chipped in 11 points.
Oneida finishes the regular season with a 17-3 overall record and an 11-1 record in the TVL.
VVS sweeps LF
In a boys volleyball match, VVS swept host Little Falls, 25-14, 27-25 and 25-15.
Nate Brewer had five aces, nine kills and six digs for the Red Devils and Owen Rose finished with three aces, five kills and 13 assists.
Bulldogs blank Magicians
Mike Sweeny’s 21 assists, three kills and three aces led the Westmoreland boys volleyball team to a 25-21, 25-20 and 25-20 sweep over visiting Herkimer.
Set scores were Joe Schreck had two assists, three kills, three digs and three aces and Bryce Daskiewich had six kills and nine digs for Westmoreland in the win.
Oneida falls in four sets
In another boys volleyball game, Oneida suffered a 3-1 home loss to Chittenango.
Set scores were 25-21, 25-22, 25-23 and 25-21.
Justin Holmes finished with two aces, three kills, 41 assists and 12 digs for the Indians and Drew Fiedler had 16 kills, three assists and seven digs. Noah Savage had 16 kills, four blocks and four digs.
