Police say man stole debit card, made purchases at area stores

VILLAGE OF LOWVILLE — A Lewis County man is accused of stealing and using another person’s debit card, according to a report by local law enforcement officers.

Sheriff’s deputies said David A. Sutton, 26, of Water Street, stole another person’s debit card on Feb. 6.

The deputies said that Sutton then went out and made purchases at Stewart’s Shop and Walmart in Lowville.

Sutton was taken into custody on Saturday, the law enforcers added.

Sutton is charged with one count each of felony fourth-degree grand larceny and third-degree forgery, as well as two counts each of third-degree identity theft and fourth-degree possession of stolen property, authorities said.

He was arraigned in Village Court and was sent to county jail in lieu of bail.

Sutton is scheduled to reappear in court to answer the charges, the sheriff’s deputies added.
