Peter E. Campanaro


Peter Edward Campanaro, 94, of Boynton Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2018, with his niece, Sheila, by his side. He was born in Rome, New York , son of Nicholas and Edvige Panara Campanaro,on June 16,1923. Peter graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1941, and was drafted in the United States Navy serving in WW II as a deep-sea diver. Upon his return from the war, Peter graduated from Morrisville State College in 1950.

Pete then relocated to Miami Beach, Florida in 1951 and operated several gas stations before becoming the proud owner of the Heathwood Motel in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida for 27 years. “Famed for Friendliness,” The Heathwood Motel, which was his pride and joy, was a friendly place where snowbirds, friends, and family members gathered for vacations. He especially enjoyed the company of his close relatives during the winter and summer months. Two of his favorite pastimes were golfing and bowling while enjoying the tropical weather.

Pete was a self-made man who left his hometown to pursue his dreams in the motel business. He has left an impressionable legacy and will be dearly missed.

Peter is survived by several special nieces and nephews including Jerry and Sheila Burlison of Rome and Boynton Beach, Florida; Karen Ritz of Naples, Florida; James and Donna Smaldon, Paul and Michelle Jensen; and Rowe and Cindi Wheeler all of Rome. He is also survived by several loving great-nieces and great-nephews, including a special great nephew and Godson, JB Burlison. In addition, he leaves behind a special great great-niece and great great-nephews and also many loving cousins.

He was predeceased by his beautiful loving sisters and brothers-in-law Skippy and Amelia Ritz; Michael and Dolly Smaldon; special nephew Johnny Ritz; and also his beloved canine companion, Pinky.

A funeral service was held at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida and the burial with Military Honors, was held at Caballero Rivero Southern Memorial Park in North Miami, Florida.

His family will always carry his memory in their hearts forever. May he Rest In Peace.
