Patrols to be out in force Memorial Day weekend

The state police and other local law enforcement agencies will be cracking down on drunken and dangerous driving over the Memorial Day weekend, the agencies have announced.

The crackdown will run from Friday, May 25 through Tuesday, May 29.

Authorities said the Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest traveling holidays of the year because it marks the unofficial start of Summer.

Law enforcement agencies will have increased patrols and checkpoints to watch for drunken and dangerous driving.

The statewide drunken driving crackdown is funded by the New York State STOP-DWI Association, with additional funding from the STOP-DWI Foundation, courtesy of the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, officials said.
