Kenneth L. Spink Sr.


ONEIDA — Kenneth L. Spink Sr., 77, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 10, 2018, in the Lutheran Home, where he had been a resident for the past five weeks.

Born in Rome on August 26, 1940, he was the son of Leo O. and Reva Smith Spink. A lifelong resident of the area, Ken was a graduate of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Central School, Class of 1959. He married Marilyn Barnard, on September 10, 1960, in Rome. 

Ken was employed as a truck driver in the Central New York area. He retired in 2005. Ken also was a former stock car driver, racing in Brewerton, Fulton and Utica-Rome Speedways. He was a member of the Christ Church in Sherrill where he was active with the Tousley Woodworkers and also served as the sexton for many years.

Ken’s hobbies included woodworking and he enjoyed making gifts for family and friends. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed traveling to the races with his son, Ken Jr. Ken also enjoyed music and was an accomplished accordion player. Of all these things, his greatest joy in his life was his family and especially loved playing with his grandsons, Ian and Shane. 

The family would like to extend their sincere and heartfelt thank you to the staff in the Bryant Wing of Lutheran Care for their care and compassion they showed to Ken and the entire family.

Surviving besides his wife of fifty-seven years, Marilyn, are his daughter, Sheri Spink-Palmieri of Warners; his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Susan Spink of Endwell; two grandsons, Ian and Shane Palmieri; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Betty Spink and three brothers, Charles, Robert and Stuart Spink.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida with the Reverend Robert Kolvik-Campbell, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home, 12- 2 p.m., Saturday, prior to the funeral. Contributions, in his memory, may be made to the Katherine Luther Home, 108 Utica Road, Clinton, NY 13323.
