The Rome City School District has announced that the John E. Joy Elementary School and Gansevoort Elementary School will be closed today. Joy, located on Bielby Road off of Turin Road, houses the school district's special education summer school for students in grades K-6, while Gansevoort, on West Liberty St., houses a district summer enrichment program for elementary school students.
According to the National Grid power outage hotline, a portion of north and central Rome, which includes the Joy school, was without power this morning. Some 1,480 residents were impacted by the outage. Power was expected to be restored in that area by 10 a.m., according to the utility company website. Other smaller outages were reported in other areas of the city.
