Ellen T. Gallivan, age 96, of Rome, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2018.
She was born February 1, 1922, in the Town of Lee, a daughter of the late George W. and Margaret May Gleason Throne, and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1938. Ellen was united in marriage to Daniel C. Gallivan, at St. Peter’s Church; he died in May of 1978. She was employed by the Rome City School District, retiring after many years of service. She was a member of St. Peter’s Church and its Altar Rosary Society and Friendly Visitors, the Bethany Gardens Guild and Rome Teresians.
Ellen is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Vaughn Combs of Rome; a son-in-law, Thomas P. Dunning of Rome; 5 grandchildren and spouses, John and Michele Dunning, Barry and Melissa Dunning, Pam and Stan Cieslewitz, Kaitlin and Brett Virdell and Robb Gallivan; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her children, Anne Marie, John, Sister Mary Ellen Gallivan, SNJM, Daniel, Patrick and Kathleen Dunning; and 3 sisters, Agnes Cole, Lillian Maurer and Jean McCanney.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Philip A. Hearn, will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m., at St. Peter’s Church. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
There are no calling hours. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
