Elizabeth M. “Betty” Czajkowski, 94, formerly of Rome and Verona Beach, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the Masonic Care Community in Utica. She was born in Maryville, MO, on November 2, 1923, the daughter of the late Francis and Gertrude Spire Auer. She was a graduate of Conception High School in Missouri and enlisted in US Navy where she met her husband, Eugene “Gene” Czajkowski. Betty and Gene were united in marriage on May 12, 1945 in Norman, OK, and shared 72 wonderful years together.
After being Honorably Discharged from the Navy, Betty and Gene settled in Rome. She went on to work at Transfiguration School and Rome Oil and Coal Company before retiring in 1988.
She was a member of Transfiguration Church in Rome and St. Mary’s of the Lake in Verona Beach.
Surviving besides her loving husband Gene, are three daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Paul Gregory of Seabrook Island, SC, Beth and Rob Kinsella of Oneida, and Mary and Bill Draper of Rome; a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Cindy Czajkowski of Munnsville; eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Norma Jean; a sister, Thelma Auer; and two brothers, Norbert and John Auer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 4, at 10 a.m. at Transfiguration Church. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
