Clinton grad named UC hockey captain

UTICA — Clinton High School graduate and Utica College hockey player Gregg Burmaster has been named a captain for the squad’s 2018-19 season.

Burmaster, who was unanimously voted as team captain for the upcoming season by his teammates, will be entering his senior year in the fall.

Along with Burmaster, Zach Borsoi, Justin Derlago and Jarrod Fitzpatrick were named assistant captains.

Burmaster is the second local player to be named a captain for the Pioneers as Clinton’s Jordan Hobaica was also named captain during the 2013-14 season.

Burmaster, who is a Colorado College transfer, registered 10 goals and 16 assists as a junior for the 21-5-1 Pioneers, who won the United Collegiate Hockey Conference Tournament title.

Burmaster also took home MVP honors in the tournament where he had a goal and two assists in UC’s 8-3 win over Elmira.

Utica College’s 21-win season in the 2017-18 season tied a program record.
