Carl “Sonny” E. Roser, Sr., 81, of Taberg, NY passed away peacefully on June 12, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 20, 1936 in Rome, NY, a son of the late Walter and Pearl White Roser. Carl married his sweetheart the former Kathleen J. Beckwith in 1959, they have shared sixty years of true love together this year. He was employed by the City of Rome where he assisted in constructing the Boyd Dam and later became the caretaker of the Kessler Damn located behind his home for over thirty years. Carl then joined B.S. McCary Construction where he assisted in the reconstruction of the steeple of St. Mary’s Church in Rome, NY. He resigned after ten years of employment at Rome Strip Steel to work for the Town of Annsville Highway Department where he later became Superintendent until his retirement in 1999. Carl also served as Town of Annsville Councilman, as well as Assistant Fire Chief with the Taberg Fire Department. He was a member of the Point Rock Methodist Church, the Point Rock Fish and Game Club, the Constableville Fish and Game Club and the Taberg Trail Blazers. In his later years he enjoyed playing bingo, going to Vernon Downs Casino and loved to play lottery scratch off tickets. Carl was known for taking the “long way” to his destinations, he preferred to travel the back country roads and was an avid conversationalist. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling.
Carl is survived by his wife of sixty years, Kathy J. Roser and their five children, Pam and Earl Dibble, Karen Mahl, Lauri and Paul Vanderwarker, Edwin “Butch” Roser, Carl “Skip” Roser, Jr., and April Roser; fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Marjorie Bartlett and Cindy and Carl Tarbania; brother-in-laws, Dennis and Carol Beckwith and Thomas McCarthy; many cousins, nieces, nephews; and special friends Ed Turner, Jim Burke, Rick Zieniuk and Gino Depasquale. He was also predeceased by two sisters, Shirley Brown and Pauline McCarthy.
The family would like to extend their many thanks to the staff of the Taberg Volunteer Fire Dept., Rome Memorial Hospital, Upstate University Hospital, Betsy Ross Nursing Rehabilitation Center and Hospice & Palliative Care of New Hartford for the compassionate care he has received. The family would also like to thank Pastor Deborah Wollaber and Reverend Fred Bailey for their comforting ministry in their time of need, along with the many neighbors and friends who have visited Carl at home.
Funeral Services will be held 10 am., Friday, June 15, 2018 from the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., Camden, NY. Interment Maple Hill Cemetery, Taberg, NY. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home, 109 Main Street. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
