Bakeries campaign raises dough for Kelberman Center

The Kelberman Center is the recipient of nearly $20,000 raised by Maplehurst Bakeries through its annual employee fundraising campaign.

Each year, Weston Foods USA and its affiliates, including Maplehurst Bakeries of Frankfort, encourage employees to choose a local cause to benefit from the company’s annual giving campaign Weston – Seeding Stronger Communities.

In the Mohawk Valley, Maplehurst Bakeries chose The Kelberman Center as the beneficiary for its campaign.

“We are humbled and honored by the efforts of the employees at Maplehurst Bakeries,” said Dr. Robert E. Myers, III, executive director of the Kelberman
Center.

“Completely on their own initiative, the Maplehurst team truly went above and beyond for us. Their generous support will enhance the Center’s ability to continue to develop new and innovative programs for local families affected by autism spectrum disorder.”

About 1 in 68 children today are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, a lifelong condition affecting social and communication skills and characterized by obsessive interests and repetitive behaviors, Myers said.

It is estimated that 50,000 teens age out of school-based autism services each year, highlighting the need for individualized supports and services such as those provided by the Kelberman Center. Beginning with a specialized preschool more than 20 years ago, today the Kelberman Center serves about 500 local families.

The Kelberman Center, an affiliate of Upstate Caring Partners, delivers customized solutions with expertise in autism through a range of services througout the lifespan, including community based services, education, supporting families, clinic services, social and recreation programs, and residential living.
