VVS edges New Hartford for extra-inning triumph
TJ Horodnick earned the win in relief of starter Dewey Roden for the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill baseball team as the Red Devils outlasted Tri-Valley League foe New Hartford, 3-2, in nine innings for a road victory on Friday.
Friday’s game was a non-league contest.
Horodnick threw four innings, allowing one run, unearned and striking out two and walking one.
Roden went five innings, giving up one run on seven hits while walking two and striking out six.
Roden also turned in a 2-for-4 day at the plate with a stolen base.
Tyler Rotach went 3-for-4 for the Red Devils and had a RBI and scored a run.
VVS moves to 2-0 on the season and is scheduled to take the field again on Monday at home against Jamesville-DeWitt in another non-league contest at 4:30.
Clinton falls in CSC matchup
In a Center State Conference matchup, Clinton fell to Canastota, 8-4 at home.
Brady Dobrzenski, Henry Gardner and Jandre Garcia all doubled for the Warriors.
Andrew Krom suffered the loss on the mound for 1-1 Clinton.
RFA tourney postponed
Rome Free Academy’s Lew Bennett Tournament held in memory of the late freshman coach which was originally scheduled to be played today at DeLutis Field was been postponed because of the weather.
The tourney has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 6.
The field for this year’s tournament includes host RFA along with Fulton, Oneida and South Jefferson.
Last season, the Black Knights defeated Oneida in the championship game.
