Turning Stone set to host 21st nationally televised boxing event
VERONA — Turning Stone Casino Resort will be hosting its 21st nationally televised boxing event on Thursday evening when Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN will headline a card at the Event Center.
The card will feature a bout between super lightweight contender Michael “The Artist” Perez and Marcelino “Nino” Lopez along with a welterweight fight between Rashidi “Speedy” Ellis and John Karl Sosa.
On the undercard, Travell Maizon and Eddy “E-Boy” Gomez are to square off and Jimmy Garcia of Syracuse will take on Albert Tully out of Gouverneur in a super welterweight bout.
Perez will look to rebound and get back into title contention against once-defeated Lopez. Perez enters the 10-round bout with a 24-2-2 record and 11 knockouts, while Lopez possesses a 32-1-1 record with 17 KO’s.
In the 10-round co-main event, Ellis, undefeated with a 17-0 mark and 12 KO’s, will make his return to defend his title against Sosa, coming in with a 13-2 mark and six KO’s. Maizon, also undefeated at 10-0, all in KO’s, will battle Gomez at 19-2, 11 KO’s.
Garcia is making his first appearance on a nationally televised card and Tulley is making his professional boxing debut. Their fight will begin at 7:30.
The live broadcast by ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes will start at 10 p.m.
