Evening of All-Stars Banquet scheduled June 1
UTICA — The ninth annual Where There’s a Will There’s a Way Evening of All-Stars banquet dinner will be held on Thursday, June 1, at 6:30 p.m. at Daniele’s Banquet Specialists.
The event, which honors area high school football players, is being held in honor of Will Smith, the former Proctor High and New Orleans Saints football star who died in April, 2016.
This year’s event will feature a panel of speakers headed by Smith’s former teammate, Penny Semaia, along with Blaise Faggiano, head football coach at Utica College; Curt Fitzpatrick, head football coach at SUNY Morrisville, and Rob Kramer, offensive coordinator at Saint John Fisher College.
Memorabilia including a helmet signed by Sean Payton and Drew Brees, a jersey and football signed by Brees and a football signed by the entire team will be part of a raffle and auction at the event.
The event is open to the public. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased by contacting Filletti at 315-269-3858. Thursday, May 25, is the final day tickets can be purchased and they will not be available at the door.
Sherrill kids fishing derby set for Saturday
SHERRILL — The City of Sherrill will be hosting a kids fishing derby on Saturday. The derby will be at the Sherrill Pond beginning at noon and lasting until 1:30. Sign ups begin at 11 a.m.
The derby is open to all children 15-years old and younger and the groups will be spilt into four age groups; 5-and-under, 6-7, 8-9, 10-15. The derby is free with food and drinks available.
All kids will get a goody bag full of fishing supplies and receive door prizes. Grand prizes will be awarded around 2 p.m.
