Boxing Hall of Fame remembers Mendoza
CANASTOTA — The flags of the International Boxing Hall of Fame are being flown at half-staff in memory of booking agent and manager Rafael Mendoza.
Mendoza died on March 8 in Guadalajara, Mexico after a battle with lung cancer. He was 80.
A 2015 International Boxing Hall of Fame inductee, Mendoza advised 26 world champions including Hall of Famers Miguel Canto, Humberto “Chiquita” Gonzalez, Daniel Zaragoza, Alexis Arguello and Pipino Cuevas.
He also worked with Hall of Fame trainers Eddie Futch, Amilcar Brusa and Nacho Beristain.
