Utica Curling Club hosting invitational
WHITESBORO — The Utica Curling Club will host the Mitchell Invitational Bonspiel, which includes 36 teams from the U.S. and Canada, from Thursday through Sunday. The club is located at 8300 Clark Mills Road.
The Mitchell Medal was first competed for in 1885, and the Utica Curling Club has hosted the tournament since 1910. The name of the winning team will be inscribed on a small plate attached to the medal, which is made of 18-karat gold.
Although the tourney is an invitational, Utica teams were determined through a club championship play down. The club championship team skipped by Mike Platt which also includes Pat Costello, Tom Platt Jr., Pete Ciaralli and sub Doug Smith are among the squads entered.
The public is invited to view the semifinals on Saturday night at 8 and the finals scheduled on Sunday starting at 11:30 a.m. The semis and finals will also be streamed live through the club’s web site at: www.uticacurlingclub.org
