Six Pack ties Downs record for 3-year-old trotting colts

VERNON — Six Pack won the first of three elimination races for the Empire Breeders Classic at Vernon Downs on Friday night, tying the track record for 3-year-old trotting colts.

Six Pack, driven by Ake Svanstedt, scored a victory with a time of 1:52, tying the mark set in 2012 by Market Share set the record during the 2012 season. Helpisontheway finished second, Classichap finished third and Southwind Chrome finished fourth, with all four qualifying for the EBC Finals on Memorial Day.

Seven Iron, guided by Tim Tetrick, used a last second lunge to win the second division for three-year old trotting colts. Seven Iron used a lifetime-best performance of 1:54.2 to win the race after being in fifth place at the three-quarter mark.

On The Ropes finished second, Voss Volo came in third, Clive Bibsby finished fourth and Purpose Blue Chip finished fifth, with all five qualifying for the EBC Finals.

It was Seven Iron’s first win of the year and third of his career.

Atlanta, driven by Scott Zeron, cruised to an easy win in the EBC first division for three-year old fillies. Golden Muscle charged for a late second place finish and Tribute To Seven came in third.

All three fillies qualified for the EBC Final.

Plunge Blue Chip, also driven by Svanstedt, went gate-to-wire to win the second division for 3-year-old fillies. Ciao Dolce and Repentance finished second and third to also qualify for the EBC Final.

Seven Karats lost an early lead to Natalie Hanover to finish second in the final fillies qualifying race. Natalie Hanover went on to win, Seven Karats came in second and Supergirl Riley finished third to all qualify for the EBC final.
