Sherrill Silversmiths turn back Salt Cats for 7th win

SHERRILL — The Sherrill Silversmiths earned their seventh New York Collegiate Baseball League victory with a 3-1 defeat of the visiting Syracuse Salt Cats on Friday night at Noyes Park.

Justin Stromski hit a fifth inning two run homer for the Silversmiths and Nicholas Lucchese recorded an eighth inning sacrifice fly to plate Sherrill’s third run of the game. Jake Coro doubled for the Silversmiths in the win.

Earning the win on the mound was Alex Gomes. Gomes went six innings, allowing one run on two hits while issuing three walks and striking out three. Tyler Hertzwig picked up the save for Sherrill as he tossed a scoreless ninth inning while issuing one walk.

Sherrill is 7-3 on the season and hosts the Rome Generals this afternoon at 2 p.m. back at Noyes Park.
