Rome Sports Hall of Fame to honor Spencer with service award
Bowling and golf enthusiast Pamella Spencer is the 2018 Frank Clark Service Award recipient and will be honored during the Rome Sports Hall of Fame induction and awards dinner later this month.
Spencer will be recognized for her many years of service to the sports community when the 42nd annual dinner is held on Sunday, July 29, at 5:30 p.m. at the Beeches.
The dinner will feature the induction into the Hall of Fame of Tom Barry Jr., Kelley Commerford Cobb, Tom Pugh, Ronald “Whitey” Schultz, Gerry Staudmyer and the late Tom Neidl.
The service award is named in memory of Clark, who was a longtime member of the Hall of Fame board of directors and was active in numerous community organizations.
Here’s a look at this year’s service award honoree, based on information provided by the Hall of Fame:
Spencer is being recognized for her longtime service to the Rome Women’s Bowling Association and both the Rome Men’s and Women’s Amateur Golf Tournaments.
A successful bowler in her own right, Spencer has been a member of the Rome Women’s Bowling Association for over 32 years and is currently its director and office assistant. She was inducted into the RWBA’s Hall of Fame for meritorious service.
Over the years, Spencer has chaired many committees in the RWBA and has served as an officer for several bowling leagues. She has been a state delegate to the WIBC annual meetings for over 12 years, and serves on the State Credentials Committee.
Her service also extends to the sport of golf.
An avid golfer for over 30 years, she has been the chairperson of the women’s tourney and has been a longtime volunteer at the men’s city tourney.
