Rome Generals outscored by Cortland in NYCBL loss
The Rome Generals suffered an 8-1 loss to New York Collegiate Baseball League foe Cortland on Monday in the first game of a doubleheader at DeLutis Field.
Rome Free Academy graduate Derrick Miller scored the lone run for the Generals, who fell to 15-20. Alex Vazquez had a pair of hits to lead Rome and Patrick Kenny drove in the only run.
Shaun Gamelin (3-2) went two innings on the mound to suffer the loss. He allowed six runs (all earned), four hits, three walks and struck out two. Kevin Manning pitched the final five innings in relief. He yielded two earned runs, five hits, five walks and fanned one.
In game two, the Generals led 6-5 over the Crush in the top of the fourth when the game was stopped due to inclement weather.
Rome was slated to play the Onondaga Flames this afternoon at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown.
Sherrill evens mark
Sherrill evened its record at 17-17 with an 11-5 home win over the Syracuse Salt Cats at Noyes Park.
Vernon-Verona-Sherrill graduate Connor VanDreason (2-3) hurled seven innings to record the win. He scattered 12 hits, allowed five runs (only two earned), walked one and struck out three.
Another VVS grad Andrew Roden tallied two hits, two RBIs and one run to lead Sherrill offensively. Matthew Elliott and Mickey Mullins had two hits each, while Alex Stroshine added a three-run homer. Elliott also drove in a pair of runs and scored twice.
The Silversmiths are home for Cortland on Wednesday in a 5 p.m. start at Noyes Park.
