RFA swimmer qualifies for states; HP wins team crown
Rome Free Academy swimmer Haley Griffin qualified for the state meet in the 50-yard freestyle while Holland Patent claimed the team crown at Friday’s Center State Conference meet held at RFA.
HP won the meet with a score of 431 points and RFA came in second with a score of 359. Cooperstown came in third with a score of 208 and West Canada Valley was fourth with a score of 259. Adirondack finished in fifth place with a score of 235.
Eva Capuana won the 200 freestyle event for HP with a time of 2 minutes, 14 seconds. Capuana also came in second place in the 500 freestyle event and Riley Lanckton finished third in the event. Erin Shivas came in second in the diving event for HP teammates Johanna Sherman and Paige Dare came in third and fourth respectively. Maggie McGurie finished third in the 100 freestyle. Olivia Smith finished in fifth place in the 100 butterfly event for HP.
The 200 relay team of Smith, Lanckton, Capuana and McGurire finished third for the Golden Knights and Arianna Lange finished fourth in the 100 backstroke. In the 100 breaststroke, Jenna Mazza finished third for Holland Patent and the 400 freestyle relay team of Capuana, Lanckton, Lange and McGuire finished third.
For RFA, Griffin won the 50 freestyle event along with qualifying for the state meet, and she also won the 100 backstroke. She was also part of the winning 200 medley relay team with Katelynne Nash, Katerina Dragojevic and Aryann Dolan. Dragojevic also finished fifth in the 200 freestyle and Dolan finished fourth in the 50 freestyle. Emma Bisgrove finished sixth in the 100 butterfly for the Black Knights and Emma Preski finished sixth in the 100 freestyle. In the 200 freestyle relay, the team of Nash, Kara Williamson, Preski and Damaris Moriarty finished sixth for RFA. Dragojevic finished in fourth in the 100 breaststroke for the Black Knigths and the 400 freestyle relay team of Dolan, Preski, Williamson and Griffin finished second for RFA.
For Adirondack, Sarah Mercer won the 100 breaststroke and teammate Grace Chambers came in second in the event. The 200 medley relay team of Kaitlyn Renwick, Chambers, Mandi McWayne and Mercer finished fifth. Mercer also finished sixth in the 200 individual medley and McWayne finished third in the 100 butterfly. Renwick finished sixth in the 500 freestyle event for the Wildcats.
