RFA girls record indoor track victories in New York City

Amara Jowers and Gianna Capoccia had first-place finishes for the Rome Free Academy girls indoor track team at the New Balance Games in New York City on Saturday.

Jowers came in first in the sophomore long jump and Capoccia finished in first in the freshman 1,000-meter run.

Also for Rome, Sarah Crockett finished third in the shot put and Gabrielle Ramirez finished third in the sophomore shot put.

Camden falls in final

At the Section III Dual Meet Championships at Cicero-North Syracuse, the Camden wrestling squad fell in the Division II final to Central Valley Academy, 41-37.

Camden scored a 42-32 victory over Canastota and a 51-12 victory over Vernon-Verona-Sherrill. VVS defeated Adirondack, 44-35, but lost to Camden. Holland Patent defeated Phoenix 51-36 and lost to CVA 59-21.

RFA lost to Jamesville-DeWitt/ Christian Brothers Academy, 46-22 and to Indian River, 61-21 in the Division I meet.

VVS sweeps to win

In a boys volleyball match, VVS swept Little Falls, 3-0.

Set scores were 25-9, 25-15 and 25-9.

Leading the way for the Red Devils was Owen Rose who had nine assists and three kills and Nate Brewer who had three aces and seven kills. Brennan Miller had two aces and 11 assists for the Red Devils in the win.

VVS is 6-1 overall and 2-1 in league play.
