RFA ace Deraway tosses perfect game

Rome Free Academy senior softball pitcher Olivia Deraway threw a perfect game for the Black Knights as they recorded an 11-0 rain-shortened victory over Tri-Valley League foe Proctor High of Utica on Thursday.

Deraway went six innings without allowing a base runner and struck out 12.

It was her third no-hitter of the season.

At the plate, Deraway doubled for the Black Knights while Sarah Fazio tripled and recorded two RBIs.

Olivia Guy also doubled and had an RBI for Rome while Kaylei Wood and Erin Reilly also drove in a run apiece.

RFA improved to 11-2 overall and 9-1 in the league on the season.

Dogs score in every inning

Scoring at least one run in every inning, Westmoreland turned in a 18-5 Center State Conference crossover softball road victory over New York Mills.

Julia Muller earned the victory in the circle for the Bulldogs while Gabriella Ricci doubled. Julia DiPietro homered in the win for Westmoreland.

The Bulldogs are 8-9 overall and 3-5 in the CSC.

Redskins take CSC loss

In a CSC softball game, Oriskany lost to West Canada Valley, 3-2, on the road.

Taylor Reid and Angelina Hays tripled and Matteson Hoehn hit two doubles in the loss for the Redskins.

Matteson Hoehn took the loss.

Red Devils suffer road loss

In another TVL softball contest, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill took a 12-3 road loss to New Hartford in five innings. The game was called in the bottom of the fifth inning due to the weather.

Jordan Penoyer took the loss for the Red Devils in the circle.

HP bounced by No. 7 seed

In the Section III Class D boys lacrosse tournament, No. 10 seed Holland Patent lost 20-2 to No. 7 Jordan-Elbridge. Game details were unavailable.

RFA draws No. 6 seed

In the girls Section III Class AA lacrosse tournament, RFA was assigned the No. 6 seed.

The Black Knights will be on the road on Tuesday against No. 3 seed Cicero-North Syracuse. Game time is set for 6 p.m. The winner of the RFA/C-NS game will go onto face No. 2 seed Christian Brothers Academy.

West Genesee was awarded the No. 1 seed and will face the winner of the No. 5 seed Liverpool and No. 4 Baldwinsville.

In Class B, Fayetteville-Manlius was awarded the No. 1 seed and in Class C, Jamesville-DeWitt is the No. 1 seed. In Class D, Marcellus is the No. 1 seed.
