Racing scheduled to begin on April 2 at U-R Speedway
VERNON — After Mother Nature shortened the 2016 Utica-Rome Speedway season, owners Bill and Kim Shea are looking forward to a fresh start this spring.
New and old events pack the speedway’s schedule.
The “traditional season opener” is scheduled for April 23, but the first racing of the year is scheduled to happen three weeks earlier on Sunday, April 2 when the track hosts the Chill Factor 40, a DIRTcar modifieds event.
The 40-lap feature offers a $3,000 to win purse with $300 going to drivers who qualify. Also on the card is a 30l-lap DIRTcar 602 Sportsman feature, and capping off the program is the Kings Smash’em Crash’em Demolition Derby.
The official season opener is set to go off three weeks later with a card including the DIRTcar modifiers, DIRTcar sportsman and DIRTcar pro stocks.
The 360 Sprints return on their traditional dates of Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day weekends.
The New Yorker 100 is set to run on July 2, and on Aug. 20 the track will host its Night of Legends program featuring DIRTcar modifieds, King of Dirt 358 modifieds, sportsman, and pro stocks.
The Cole Cup is set for October at a date to be announced.
The Speedway will kick off Super Dirt Week XLVI with a DIRTcar 358-Modifieds Series race on Oct. 3.
The track previously announced that it is returnng to the DIRTcar fold for weekly sanctioning.
The opening round of points for the DIRTcar divisions begins on the April 23 card.
