UTICA — Derek Switzer threw a two-hit shutout for the Rome Free Academy baseball team as the Black Knights earned a 7-0 season-ending Tri-Valley League victory over rival Proctor High at Murnane Field on Thursday.

The game was called in the top half of the sixth inning due to the weather.

Switzer tossed five innings giving up the two hits while issuing four walks and striking out five.

Matt Wheadon led the Rome offense by turning in a 2-for-4 day and driving in two runs. Gino DeBlasiis doubled and had a RBI while brothers Shea and Aaron Simons both had RBIs. Tyler Schoff and Owen Hetherington drove in the other two runs for RFA.

The Black Knights ended their season with a 12-5 overall record and 8-3 in TVL play.

RFA now waits to see what seed they will be in the upcoming Section III Class AA tournament, with the seeding meeting scheduled for Sunday.
