Holland Patent wrestlers sweep to pair of victories
The Holland Patent wrestling team swept to wins over Morrisville-Eaton and Beekmantown at the Warrensburg Duals on Saturday in Warren County.
The Golden Knights defeated Morrisville-Eaton, 51-33, and Beekmantown, 48-42.
TJ Philpotts, Nick Herringshaw, Garrett Evans, Chris Synakowski and Owen Williams all went 2-0 in the duals, while Josh Biron, Dylan Baird, Joe Diana, Griffin Briggs, Garrett Craft, Justin Pianell and Steve Smyth each recorded a win.
The Golden Knights improved to 9-6 on the season.
Red Devils dish out win
In boys volleyball action, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill gave Oneida its first Tri-Valley League loss with a 3-1 victory.
Set scores were 20-25, 25-12, 25-17 and 25-23.
Owen Rose paced VVS with six kills and 24 assists, while Nathan Brewer added eight kills and 13 digs.
James Renwick also added 13 kills for the now 2-1 Red Devils, who improve to a 1-1 league record.
Drew Fiedler dished out a game-high 35 assists, while Justin Holmes added 25 digs and Jayson Isabelle had 18 digs.
The Indians fall to a 1-2 overall mark and are 0-1 in the league.
Bulldogs drop decision
In another boys volleyball contest, Westmoreland dropped a 3-1 decision against Center State Conference foe Canastota.
Set scores were 25-13, 29-31, 25-14 and 25-13.
Carlos Colon had 12 digs, Dan Hurley had eight digs and three aces and Mitchell Fedor had five digs and three aces.
Mike Sweeney also added seven assists.
The Bulldogs are 1-2 in both the league and overall on the season.
Westmo defeats Old Forge
The Westmoreland girls volleyball team defeated CSC foe Old Forge, 3-0, at home.
Set scores were 25-17, 25-12 and 25-9.
Josie Shafer posted six kills and eight assists, Brooke Taverne had seven kills, nine service points and five aces and Jenna Pastorella tallied four kills, five service points and 13 assists in the victory.
Westmoreland improves to a 5-4 overall mark and is 4-1 in the league.
