Generals split NYCBL twin bill with Syracuse Spartans

The Rome Generals split a New York Collegiate Baseball League doubleheader with the Syracuse Spartans on Monday at DeLutis Field.

The Generals won the opener in eight innings, 7-6, before dropping the nightcap, 3-1.

In the opener, Matt Baker and Joe Bramanti doubled for the Generals and each had a RBI.

Rome Free Academy graduate Derrick Miller also had a RBI, and Patrick Kenny, Baker and Bramanti also drove in runs for Rome. On the mound, Shaun Gamelin worked three innings of relief work, giving up one run on five hits.

In the second game, Bramanti doubled and drove in the lone run for the Generals. Robert Modica took the loss on the mound for Rome.

Rome plays the Sherrill Silversmiths on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Noyes Park.

Sherrill falls by one

Vernon-Veorna-Sherrill’s Dewey Roden smacked his second homer of the season during the Sherrill Sllversmith’s 9-8 loss to Cortland at Noyes Park.

Roden finished 3-for-5 on the day with two RBIs and Chrs Turco also homered and had two RBIs.
