Crunch wrap up Galaxy Cup with victory over Comets

UTICA — The Syracuse Crunch clinched the Galaxy Cup with a 2-1 overtime win on Friday night against the Utica Comets at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

Carter Verhaeghe scored the game-winning goal for the Crunch with 38 seconds left in overtime.

Comets goalie Thatcher Demko and Crunch goalie Eddie Pasquale kept the game scoreless throughout the first period before Daniel Walcott broke the scoreless tie three and a half minutes into the second period.

Michael Carcone tied the game at 1-1 for the Comets when he converted a breakaway with 25 seconds left in the second period.

Demko finished with 20 saves for the Comets and his record moves to 24-13-7.

Utica returns to the ice tonight as the Comets travel to Belleville for a 7 o'clock contest.
