Comets split two AHL road games

The Utica Comets spilt a pair of road games over the weekend, winning 5-2 on Sunday against the Providence Bruins and losing 4-1 to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday.

On Sunday, the Comets jumped out to an early 2-0 lead behind goals from Jake Virtanen and Alexandre Grenier.

Utica added two more goals in the second period after Michael Carcone and Curtis Valk scored to give Utica a 4-0 lead. Cody Kunyk scored the last goal for the Comets in the third period.

Austin Czarnik and Chris Porter scored for Providence.

Utica goaltender Thatcher Demko made 28 saves while improving his record to 18-12-4 on the season. Zane McIntyre fell to 16-4-3 for the Bruins.

On Saturday, the Comets fell 4-1 to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Evan McEneny scored the lone goal for the Comets. Demko took the loss for Utica while making 24 saves.
