Comets settle for split of weekend AHL contests

The Utica Comets split a pair of weekend AHL games, dropping a 4-1 decision against host Lehigh Valley on Sunday after skating to a 3-2 overtime victory against Hershey on Saturday.

On Sunday, Alexandre Grenier collected his 11th of the season with a wrist shot, and Curtis Valk, Colby Robak assisted to continue all three players’ point streak to four games.

Travis Sanheim, Will O’Neill, Taylor Leier and T.J. Brennan handled the scoring for the Phantoms while Alex Lyon made 22 saves for his league-leading 16th win.

Richard Bachman recorded 32 saves in the loss, moving him to a 4-7-1 record this season.

On Saturday, Curtis Valk delivered the overtime winner, while Grenier and Wacey Hamilton contributed on the other goals.

Paul Carey and Chandler Stephenson scored for the Bears and former Comets goaltender Joe Cannata recorded 20 saves.

Thatcher Demko turned in a 36-save performance to improve his record to 8-8-3 on Saturday.

The Comets return to the Utica Memorial Auditorium on Wednesday night to host Galaxy Cup foe Syracuse Crunch. Puck drop is at 7 o’clock.
