WINNIPEG, Manitoba — Colgate hockey senior captain Jake Kulevich signed an amateur tryout contract with the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League on Thursday.

Kulevich is the first Raider from the Class of 2017 to sign a professional hockey contract following the 2016-17 season. Manitoba is the AHL team for the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets.

Kulevich tallied career-highs with six goals, 16 assists and was the first Colgate defenseman to record 20 or more points in a single season since Spiro Goulakos in 2013-14.

Kulevich is also the first Colgate defenseman to lead the team in points since the 1999-2000 season.

The defenseman was among the best in ECAC Hockey, blocking 64 shots for the league’s most blocked shots by a defenseman that also scored at least 20 points.

In his career, Kulevich had 15 goals, 45 assists for 60 points and 256 blocked shots in 150 games played, which also makes him the 14th player in program history to play in 150 contests. He is a two-time Dean Coley “Barrel” Award winner, given annually to Colgate’s best defensive player.

He was also a three-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team selection, a three-time Raider Academic Honor Roll selection and named to the Dean’s List four times.

Kulevich will play his first game with the Moose tonight when they host the Rockford Ice Hogs.
