Checkers sweep two-game series with Comets

UTICA — The Utica Comets dropped Friday night’s American Hockey League contest to the Charlotte Checkers, 5-2, at the Utica Memorial Auditorium, wrapping up the teams’ two-game series.

The Comets dropped Wednesday’s game to Charlotte also by the same 5-2 score.

Scoring for the Comets were Jayson Megna and Michael Chaput. Megna’s goal came short-handed in the second period with Carter Bancks and Evan McEney tallying the assists. Chaput’s goal came on the power play. Utica goaltender made 26 saves.

Utica is back in action on Wednesday night as the Comets travel to take on the Laval Rockets. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30,

In a pair of roster moves, the Vancouver Canucks on Friday reassigned center Reid Boucher and goalie Thatcher Demko to the Comets.

Boucher ranks second on Utica with 10 points, three goals and seven assists, while Demko holds a 4-2-1 record this season in a Comets uniform.
