Rome Sports HOF to hold sports breakfast to honor National Girls and Women in Sports Day
The Rome Sports Hall of Fame and Museum will hold a women’s sports breakfast in honor of National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD). The breakfast will be held at the Delta Lake Inn on Saturday, April 7 from 9-11 a.m.
This breakfast is one of more than 1,000 events taking place across the country for National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Congress has proclaimed this national day each year since 1987.
The Rome Sports Hall of Fame wants to promote participation in all athletics by celebrating with the high schoolers and youth in honor of National Girls & Women in Sports Day. The National Girls and Women in Sports Organization recognizes the progress sparked by Title IX and the ongoing effort to ensure access to sports for girls and women.
Research demonstrates that girls who play sports have better health, higher self-esteem, stronger leadership skills, greater academic achievement and economic opportunity. NGWSD is geared to get these girls in the game and expand their opportunities both in sports and in life. (http://ngwsd.org/)
The Rome Sports Hall of Fame is partnering with the Rome City School District and Rome Catholic to promote and create opportunities for all sixth grade girls and high school athletes. The hall wants to celebrate athletic participation and provide some opportunities for young girls to learn a new sport and encourage them to continue participation through their high school years and beyond.
The Rome Sports Hall of Fame invites the athletes to come celebrate and to be treated to a breakfast and have the opportunity to hear about what athletics has done for many successful women. Attendees will hear from high school students, possibly college students and some Rome Sports Hall of Fame and Museum female inductees. Come hear about how sports changed their lives.
The breakfast is free for sixth grade girls and female high school athletes.
However, as the Delta Lake Inn has a limited seating capacity, the athletes must register for the event. They may get a registration form from their physical education teacher. The deadline for responding is Monday, March 12.
Over 150 people are expected to attend the breakfast.
Donations are welcomed from local businesses and private citizens.
Checks should be mailed to Rome Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, PO Box 774, Rome, NY 13442-0774. Please enter the word, “Breakfast” in the memo section of the check.
