J/24 Regatta sets on Oneida Lake
ONEIDA — For the sixth consecutive year Oneida Lake Sailing Club (OLSC) will host a J/24 District 7 Pennant Series Regatta. The two-day event will set sail on June 3-4, from Callahan’s Marina off Route 31, near the southeast corner of Oneida Lake. Racing will take place on the eastern end of the lake and will be best observed from South Bay and the Verona Beach areas.
With 5 years of experience the regatta committee is adept at providing a well-organized event that will be both fun and challenging for J/24 crews, and entertaining for spectators both on and off the water. OLSC has an excited and experienced membership eager to provide hospitality and great racing to crews from all over the Northeast.
Racing will begin both Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m., with registration, check-in and skipper’s meetings beforehand. Weekend festivities will also include a barbeque on Saturday, and a complimentary awards picnic concluding the event on Sunday afternoon.
Races will be officiated in accordance with The Rules of Sailing, prescriptions of U.S. Sailing, applicable J/24 class rules, and the Sailing Instructions. The regatta will have a trained and experienced race management team on the water who will be positioned to conduct and monitor the regatta.
The competition will consist of a series of races sailed on windward-leeward (upwind-downwind) courses utilizing orange and yellow inflatable buoys marking the legs. The number of legs will be determined at race time based on wind speed, with each race approximately one hour.
A hoist will be available at Callahan’s Marina for launching sailboats, with temporary dockage provided, beginning Friday, June 3, from noon to 8 p.m. Space for camping is also present at Callahan’s and Oneida Lake Marinas.
The Notice of Race for the regatta and registration information is posted on the Oneida Lake Sailing Club web page at http://www.oneidalakesailingclub.org/#!regattas/c1l5f. Regatta registration deadline is May 17, with a late fee thereafter.
