Annual Rome Sports Hall of Fame Golf Scramble has field of 88
The 25th annual Rome Sports Hall of Fame Golf Scramble was held at the Rome Country Club last weekend, with 88 players participating.
The winning team of Roy Barnes, Dave Petrelli, Mark Hinman and Stan Evans shot a 12-under 60.
The squad won a tiebreaker with Tom Barry, Gary LaBarge, Kevin Merchant and Mike Grande, who also had a score of 60. Finishing third was the team of Frank Viviani, Gary Clemens, Dick Rapke and Bob Warshal.
The coed division was won by the team of Audrey Copperwheat, Jim Tims, John Rossi and Roger Perta with a score of 68.
Placing second was the team of Greg and Lynne Scharf, Geno Brockway and Sarah Daggett.
The tourney also included several individual contests. Among the winners: Warshal, men’s longest drive; Deborah Milotte, women’s longest drive, and Charlie Premo, LaBarge and Barb Quackenbush, closest to the pin. In addition, team skins were won by Team Viviani, Team Barry and Team Robinson.
The scramble is the Rome Sports Hall of Fame and Museum’s major annual fundraising event.
Proceeds provide the funds for the upkeep, insurance and improvements made to the Hall of Fame located at 5790 Rome-New London Road.
Members of the hall’s board of directors assisted in running the tournament.
