The rue21 store in Freedom Plaza, 105 Erie Blvd. W., is not among the approximate 400 locations being shuttered by the teen fashion retailer, according to an announcement by the fashion store chain.

The Rome store moved into a different location in the same shopping center last year.

There are no other locations in Oneida County and none in Madison or Lewis counties.

Rue21 stores closing in the state include the one in Great Northern Mall in Clay, north of Syracuse.

Based in Cranberry, Pa., north of Pittsburgh, Pa., in a Facebook post, the company called the decision to close the stores “difficult but necessary.”

Like many brick-and-mortar retailers, it has been battling declining mall traffic amid strong competition online.

The privately held company didn’t say how soon the stores will close. It will have more than 700 stores in 48 states after the closures.
