Postal Service warns of approaching holiday mailing deadlines Rome, Canastota branches to have extended weekend hours
Mailing packages this holiday season? You won’t be alone as postal officials estimate more than 850 million packages will be delivered this holiday season through the Postal Service, up from more than 750 million packages handled for the holidays in 2017.
When you have to mail to get it there by Christmas Day: Local postal officials suggest Dec. 14 for standard post. That is domestic, ground service for deliveries that are not urgent and oversized packages.
For First Class mail: Dec. 19, which is service for standard-sized, single-piece stamped envelopes and small packages weighing up to 13 ounces with delivery in three business days or fewer.
Recommended last day to get two-day shipping: Dec. 20, for Priority Mail. Domestic service in 1, 2, or 3 business days based on where the package starts and where it’s being sent.
Recommended last day to get overnight shipping: Dec. 22 for Priority Mail Express.
A pair of local post offices will have extended weekend hours over the holiday season to help accommodate customers.
In Rome, the office will be open from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16.
In Canastota, the Postal Service office will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, and will also have Sunday hours — from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. — on both Dec. 10 and Dec. 17.
