Old City Hall developer gets temporary certificate of occupancy for apartments
The developer of Old City Hall has obtained a temporary certificate of occupancy for two second floor apartments there. The effort to turn the entire three-story historic building at 207 N. James St. continues.
YES Development’s most recent extension of the deal ran out at the end of 2017. Though the city can take back the deed on the property, members of the Common Council have been supportive of allowing the company to finish what it started based on the progress to date.
YES paid the city $25,000 for the building, and the original deadline was the end of 2014. The company has been turning the former seat of city government into a first floor office space and a group of upstairs apartments.
The city’s Code Enforcement Office this week approved temporary certificates for the two smaller apartments facing North James Street on the second floor, as well as the egress for those two units, according to Codes Chief Mark Domenico. The entire sprinkler system for the building and the entire fire alarm system for the building were also tested and approved.
