NAACP’s Freedom Fund event Saturday
Anthony “AO” Owens, a videographer/director who owns the Audioptix company, will be guest speaker and Paul Persaud, Director of African American Affairs for Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office, will be special guest at the Rome branch NAACP Freedom Fund Luncheon.
The annual luncheon is Saturday from noon-3 p.m. at The Beeches.
The cost to attend is $35 for adults, and $15 for children. The public is invited. For information, call 315-271-7703.
Owens, born in Utica and raised in Rome, works with his company Audioptix, of New Hartford, as CEO and creative director. He is a hip-hop artist, rock and roll frontman, videographer, director and all-around entertainer, according to an announcement for the luncheon event.
Owens has overcome issues from earlier in his life that had placed him in the federal prison system, the announcement said. He has gone from high school failure, drug dealer to convict, turned rapper to rock and roll frontman, to a bachelors in science in digital cinematography to director to entrepreneur owning his own business, the announcement added.
