‘Mary Poppins – The Musical’ takes stage at Capitol
The Rome Capitol Theatre, 220 W. Dominick St., will present “Mary Poppins — The Musical,” the first of two SummerStage productions on Thursday, July 12, Friday, July 13, and Saturday, July 14 at 7:30 each evening.
Based on the 1964 Disney movie and the book series by P.L. Travers, “Mary Poppins” revolves around the Banks family, particularly on their two naughty children, Michael and Jane.
Having gone through a series of nannies, who inevitably leave the Banks’ employ in an exasperated state, the mysterious Mary Poppins, is engaged.
The manner in which this “perfectly perfect” nanny transforms the lives of the Banks household is the basis for the plot.
Songs were written and composed by Richard and Robert Sherman, with additional music and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, and a script by Julian Fellowes.
Songs include, “Chim-Chim,Cheree,” “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Feed the Birds,” “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”
