Lake Delta Kiwanis Club honors pair of RFA students
The Lake Delta Kiwanis Club recognized two Rome Free Academy students at the Kiwanis meeting on Tuesday night.
The club presented the Wally Ott Award and the Kerin/Walker Award in honor of former Lake Delta members, according to a club announcement.
Amanda Wilbert, a senior at RFA received the Wally Ott award for academics and athletics. She will attend St Lawrence University in the fall where she plans to study neuroscence.
Her parents are Kathy and Bruce Wilbert.
Wilbert has excelled in both the classroom and the playing field, earning recognition as a member of the school’s chapter of the National Honor Society as well as earning a combined 14 varsity letters in track and field, basketball, soccer and lacrosse.
Jonathan Casler, a junior, received the Kerin/Walker award for service with the Kiwanis Key Club. Jon is the son of Kim and Shawn Casler.
Casler is the vice president of the Rome Free Academy chapter of the Key Club and has accumulated the most hours of community service for the club this school year.
He will serve as the Key Club president as a senior.
In addition, Casler is a certified lifeguard who works at local pools.
The Kerin/Walker Award was presented by Nancy Kerin and LaVerne Walker, widows of the individuals after whom the award is named.
