The Rome Historical Society is hoping to have a new executive director by late this month, according to Board of Trustees President Michael Colangelo Sr.

The Society, 200 Church St., has been operating with a volunteer interim director since the fall.

Tom Ruby, a member of the board, volunteered after the Society’s plan to hire a new director fell through.

In December, the candidate who was to take the job was injured at her current job and was unable to take the new job.

“We’re in the process of looking for a new (executive director),” said Colangelo, who noted that there are several interviews scheduled.

He said the plan is to hire someone for the position by late March. “We need to fill that position.”

The previous interim director was Megan Postol, who left in the fall. She took the interim position in late May last year following the departure of Arthur Simmons III, who served since 2014.

Since the fall, said Colangelo, “Things have been pretty good. The board has never been as active as it is right now.”
