The Rome Historical Society and Fort Stanwix National Monument will host a public tour of the new joint exhibit, “From Memory to Monument,” on Saturday, Jan. 14.

All events are free to the public.

The program begins at 1 p.m. at the Rome Historical Society, 200 Church St., and will go into detail about how the fort and its history was memorialized by the local community.

Around 1:30 p.m., a ranger will lead visitors to the second half of the exhibit, located in the park visitor center on James Street, to continue the story of how action was taken to create the modern park.

Time will be given to explore exhibit highlights, including the Sesquicentennial of the Revolution celebrations and photos of downtown Rome.

Society staff and park rangers will be available to answer questions throughout.

Also in conjunction with the new exhibit will be showings of the circa 1970s film “Made in America,” about the City of Rome at the time of the reconstruction, and public discussion and history sessions.

These will take place on Jan. 20 and Jan. 28.

Call the park at 315-338-7730 for more details.
